Suvendu Adhikari has raised serious allegations of data leaks just hours before the counting of votes in the West Bengal assembly elections. He claims that confidential information regarding counting officials was leaked via WhatsApp, threatening the integrity of the upcoming election results.
Adhikari presented WhatsApp chats and spreadsheets as evidence of these leaks, asserting that they contained critical details about officials’ designations and duty locations. “It has come to my notice that several Officers assigned for Counting Day duties are reportedly disclosing their specific duty details, locations, and designations to their respective departmental organizations and associations,” he stated.
The leaked information could undermine trust in the electoral process. Adhikari called for immediate intervention from the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer, emphasizing the need for a swift investigation into the organizations collecting this sensitive information.
He warned that ensuring the integrity of the counting process is crucial before any election results are declared. “This incident is extremely serious and I urge immediate action,” he added.
These allegations come at a critical time, as they were made just hours before election results were set to be announced. Observers are now questioning how these claims will impact public confidence in the electoral process.
