Lewis Hamilton’s decision to abandon the Ferrari simulator before the Canadian Grand Prix highlights his frustration with the team’s performance and preparation. He claims that Ferrari is losing three to four tenths in straight line speed, which could significantly impact race outcomes.
Hamilton’s recent performance at the Miami Grand Prix was disappointing, as he finished seventh after a collision. His position improved to sixth only after Charles Leclerc received a penalty post-race. This incident illustrates the challenges Hamilton faces while driving for Ferrari, especially when compared to competitors like Mercedes, McLaren, and Red Bull.
Ferrari delivered 11 upgrades for the Miami Grand Prix, but Hamilton believes these changes are insufficient. He stated, “Just look at everyone else’s wing and look at ours, you’ll see it looks different.” This comment suggests he sees a clear disparity in aerodynamic efficiency between Ferrari and its rivals.
Historically, Hamilton has excelled at the Canadian Grand Prix, winning a record-equalling seven times. Yet, his confidence seems shaken this season. He expressed that the current preparation methods are not beneficial: “Because the way we’re preparing at the moment, it’s not helping.” This reflects a broader concern about Ferrari’s ability to compete effectively under current F1 regulations.
Looking ahead, Hamilton aims to improve Ferrari’s performance before the upcoming race. He indicated a shift in approach for future races: “I’m going to have a different approach in the next race.” It remains uncertain how this strategy will manifest and whether it will yield better results.
