Mullanpur Hosts IPL 2026 Playoffs Amid Venue Changes

The IPL 2026 final will occur on May 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a shift from its original venue at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This change arises due to local association requirements that exceed the guidelines set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Ahmedabad has become a recurring host for the IPL finale, staging it for the fourth time in five years. The playoffs will be held across three venues: Mullanpur, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad.

Key playoff dates:

  • Qualifier 1 is scheduled for May 26 at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
  • The Eliminator will take place on May 27 at New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
  • Qualifier 2 is set for May 29, also at New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

BCCI officials stated, “Bengaluru was originally designated to host the Final. However, owing to certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols, the venue has been shifted and reassigned.” This statement highlights the unexpected nature of the venue change.

The playoffs are expected to draw significant attention, with a total of 70 league matches played before this stage. Observers anticipate that this year’s playoffs will maintain high competitive standards as teams vie for a spot in the final.

BCCI added that the playoffs will be conducted across three venues this season due to special operational and logistical considerations. This decision reflects efforts to accommodate all participating teams effectively.
