Karnataka SSLC Examination Grading Proposal Announced

The Karnataka government has proposed a grading system for third language subjects in the SSLC examination, which is set to be implemented from the 2025-26 academic year. Under this new system, students will receive grades instead of traditional marks in these subjects, including Hindi and NSQF courses.

Grades will be awarded as follows: ‘A’ for scores between 80% and 100%, ‘B’ for 50% to 79%, and ‘C’ for scores up to 49%. This shift aims to alleviate academic pressure on students while promoting skill-based and language learning.

Notably, third language and NSQF subjects will be classified as additional in the marks card, meaning they will not influence a student’s pass or fail status. The overall SSLC examination pattern will remain unchanged, with six core subjects still carrying a total of 625 marks.

The notification regarding this proposal is currently in draft stage and is open for public objections and suggestions for a period of seven days. The government is actively seeking input from stakeholders to refine the grading system.

This initiative reflects a broader trend in educational reform aimed at reducing stress among students and encouraging a more holistic approach to learning. By focusing on grades rather than marks, the Karnataka government hopes to foster a more supportive educational environment.

As the proposal moves forward, observers are keenly watching for feedback from the public and how it may shape the final implementation of the grading system. Details remain unconfirmed as the government awaits responses from the community.
