Weather Today: Extreme Heat Hits Delhi and Other States

Delhi and several other states are facing extreme heat conditions with temperatures soaring above 40°C, while the northern hills experience intermittent rainfall and possible snowfall. In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 41°C.

Key temperatures across major cities:

  • Delhi: Maximum temperature of 40°C with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected.
  • Hyderabad: Maximum temperature of 41°C with dry heat and occasional gusty winds.
  • Kolkata: Moderate rain chances with a maximum temperature of 34°C.
  • Chennai: Maximum temperature of 35°C with isolated coastal showers.
  • Rajasthan: Experiencing extreme heat pockets above 42°C.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Persistent warm conditions up to 40°C.
  • Jammu and Kashmir: Light rain and possible snowfall in higher altitudes, temperatures ranging from 7°C to 15°C.
  • Ahmedabad: One of the hottest cities today, reaching a maximum temperature of 43°C.

The National Weather Service has issued a yellow alert for the Delhi-NCR region due to high heat stress, predicting temperatures around 40–42°C. This marks a significant increase in urban heat stress across India, impacting travel, health, and electricity demand.

Officials report that humidity levels are also rising, exacerbating the discomfort during these extreme weather conditions. The average first-innings total at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is around 202, indicating that teams may struggle to perform under such oppressive heat.

The situation remains dynamic as observers note that weather patterns are shifting significantly. Rain predictions in northern states could provide some relief from the ongoing heat wave. However, no timeline has been established for when these changes might occur.
