Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru Advances with Contactless Travel System

Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has completed technical trials of a fully contactless passenger journey system, marking a significant advancement in international travel efficiency.

The trials were conducted in collaboration with major stakeholders including IndiGo, the Digi Yatra Foundation, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This innovative system aims to provide a seamless and secure travel experience with minimal physical interaction.

As part of IATA’s global proof-of-concept programme, the trials showcased an end-to-end digital journey powered by biometric identification. This technology is expected to enhance the overall passenger experience by reducing wait times and streamlining the check-in process.

Kempegowda International Airport previously introduced the Digi Yatra platform for domestic travel, positioning itself at the forefront of next-generation aviation technology. Currently, it is the only airport in India involved in IATA’s initiative, underscoring its commitment to adopting advanced travel solutions.

In a separate incident, a bomb threat email sent to the airport’s Customer Engagement Centre was determined to be a hoax, ensuring the safety and security of passengers and staff.

Observers are keenly watching how these technological advancements will reshape the future of air travel, particularly in the context of increasing demand for contactless solutions in the post-pandemic era. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for the full implementation of the contactless system.
