Iran Attack Indian Ship

India summoned the Iranian ambassador after two Indian-flagged ships came under attack in the Strait of Hormuz. This escalation follows reports of gunfire from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, forcing two vessels to turn back.

Notably, ten Indian-flagged vessels have successfully crossed the strait despite these threats. Among them was the Desh Garima, which was carrying crude oil bound for Mumbai port.

Iran had previously allowed Indian vessels to navigate through the strait but had recently closed this critical waterway following heightened tensions with the U.S. and Israel, which began on February 28.

As of now, there are 499 Indian seafarers aboard various Indian-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf region. In total, 2,487 seafarers have been evacuated by shipping companies amid these rising dangers.

Reports indicate that vessels attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz received radio messages from Iran’s navy warning them they were not allowed passage. Two ships reported being hit by gunfire during these encounters.

Currently, there are 13 Indian vessels positioned to the west of Hormuz and six in the Gulf of Oman to its east. Additionally, one vessel is located in the Gulf of Aden and three in the Red Sea.

India has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe maritime passage for its vessels. Nevertheless, several Indian- and foreign-flagged ships destined for India remain stalled at the strait.

The situation remains fluid as diplomatic discussions continue. Observers are closely monitoring further developments regarding maritime security in this vital region.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further military engagements or diplomatic resolutions that may arise from this incident.
