As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu heats up, Vijay, a prominent figure from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has announced his candidacy for the Trichy East constituency in the upcoming 2026 elections. This announcement comes as the state prepares for elections on April 23, 2026, for all 234 Assembly constituencies.
Currently, Trichy East is held by Inigo S Irudayaraj of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who won the seat in 2021 by a significant margin of 53,797 votes. The DMK’s stronghold in this urban-dominated area, known for its large Christian voter base, poses a challenge for any opposition.
In the previous elections, the AIADMK’s Vellamandi N Natarajan finished second in Trichy East, garnering 40,000 votes. This historical context highlights the competitive nature of the constituency, which Vijay aims to disrupt with his new political party, founded in 2024.
