Tbpn: OpenAI Acquires : A Major Move into Media

OpenAI has acquired the Technology Business Programming Network (TBPN), a significant move into the media sector that is projected to generate more than $30 million in revenue this year. TBPN, co-hosted by John Coogan and Jordi Hays, streams live for three hours daily on platforms such as YouTube and X.

Coogan and Hays began their work on TBPN in late 2024, and the network has quickly become a key stop on the media circuit for tech executives. This acquisition represents OpenAI’s first investment in the media sector and its biggest media push yet, although the terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, expressed confidence that TBPN will maintain its critical approach, stating, “I do not anticipate a shift in the network’s critical approach toward OpenAI itself.” This sentiment was echoed by Hays, who noted, “The openness to feedback and commitment to getting this right from Sam and the OpenAI team stood out to us.”

TBPN will continue to operate under its existing brand after the acquisition and has been granted editorial independence. Coogan reassured viewers, saying, “The show won’t change as a result of the acquisition.”

Fidji Simo, another key figure in the acquisition, remarked, “TBPN will bring AI to the world in a way that helps people understand the full impact of this technology on their daily lives.” This aligns with OpenAI’s broader mission to integrate AI into various sectors responsibly.

As TBPN continues to grow, it remains to be seen how this acquisition will influence its content and audience engagement. Observers are keen to see if the network will expand its reach or alter its programming in response to OpenAI’s involvement. Details remain unconfirmed.
