Counterfeit Drug Network Involving Tanishq Jha Busted in Delhi
A counterfeit drug network was dismantled by Delhi Police on September 1, 2025, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure of counterfeit medicines worth nearly Rs 50 crore.
The operation revealed a complex supply chain linking suppliers in Uttarakhand to traders in Delhi and a manufacturer in Bihar. Anirudh Rai was apprehended while delivering a package containing Tramadol premix, a controlled substance.
During the investigation, police discovered that Amit had stored 20 kilograms of Tramadol premix in his warehouse in Roorkee, while Prashant acted as an intermediary, connecting suppliers to buyers across North India.
Notably, Tanishq Jha’s factory in Patna was found to be producing counterfeit medicines after its license had expired. This highlights the ongoing issue of illegal pharmaceutical manufacturing in the region.
Delhi Police laid a trap to catch the courier, leading to the arrest of several individuals involved in the operation. The police seized counterfeit medicines and psychotropic drugs, which are often linked to serious health risks.
A senior Crime Branch officer stated, “The goal was to trace the supply chain behind the material,” emphasizing the importance of dismantling such networks.
Another Crime Branch officer noted, “When factories shut down or excess stock remains in the warehouses, middlemen sometimes try to move the material quickly,” indicating the opportunistic nature of these illegal operations.
The investigation revealed a structured network involving suppliers of raw materials, brokers connecting buyers and sellers, transporters moving the goods, and manufacturing units converting raw materials into tablets or syrups.
The pharmaceutical belt around Roorkee has many small manufacturers that emerged after Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh, contributing to the prevalence of counterfeit drugs in the region.
As authorities continue to investigate, the full extent of the network and its operations remains to be seen. Details remain unconfirmed.
