In a tragic incident, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, a well-known figure in the Bengali film and television industry, drowned while shooting for a series titled ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ off Talsari beach in Digha, Odisha. The incident occurred during a shoot in knee-deep water, raising immediate concerns about safety protocols.
Banerjee, aged 43, was reported to have been rescued from the sea but was declared dead upon arrival at a local hospital at 6:10 PM. Crew members attempted to save him after he was reported drowning, but their efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are currently investigating whether safety protocols were adhered to during the shoot. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact circumstances of his drowning.
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee made his debut in the film industry in 2009 with the movie ‘Chirodini Tumi Je Amar’ and quickly became a popular face in the Bengali film, OTT, and television sectors. He is survived by his wife and a 13-year-old son.
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, expressed her condolences, stating, “This news has left me stunned, heartbroken, and grief-stricken.” She further remarked, “He was one of my favourite actors and a wonderful person.”
Sudipta Chakraborty, a fellow actor, praised Banerjee’s character, saying, “Rahul had a heart of gold. He stood up for me and voiced his opinion against internet hooliganism.”
The director of the series revealed that Banerjee had insisted on an unscripted drone shot just before the incident occurred, which may have contributed to the unforeseen circumstances.
The post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at Contai Sub-divisional Hospital, with the cause of death pending the report. As the investigation unfolds, the film community mourns the loss of a talented actor and a beloved individual.
