Pm sym: Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme (PM-SYM) Enrolment Reaches 52.5 Lakh

The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Scheme (PM-SYM) has successfully enrolled 52.5 lakh individuals as of March 12, 2026, providing a crucial safety net for unorganized sector workers. This non-compulsory, contributory pension plan targets employees aged 18-40 years earning up to ₹15,000 monthly, ensuring they receive a minimum pension of ₹3,000 per month after reaching the age of 60.

Launched in 2019, the scheme aims to deliver retirement benefits to millions of unorganized workers, including construction laborers, agricultural laborers, and street vendors. Eligible participants must not be income tax payers and should not be covered under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) or the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

Contributions to the PM-SYM are automatically debited from a savings account, with a 50:50 contribution ratio between the subscriber and the government. Monthly contributions start at ₹55 for individuals aged 18 and increase to ₹200 for those aged 40. This matching contribution from the government significantly enhances the financial security of the workers.

As the enrolment period extends until March 31, 2026, workers can register at approximately 400,000 Common Service Centers across India or online through the PM SYM portal. This accessibility is crucial for reaching the target demographic, ensuring that those who need it most can benefit from the scheme.

Spouses of eligible applicants can also apply separately, expanding the scheme’s reach and impact. The government’s commitment to supporting unorganized workers through this initiative reflects a growing recognition of their contributions to the economy.

As the deadline for enrolment approaches, observers are keenly watching the uptake of the scheme and its potential to provide financial stability for millions. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the final enrolment numbers as the deadline nears, but the current figures indicate a positive response from the target audience.
