PM Kisan 22nd Installment to Benefit Millions of Farmers
On March 13, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Guwahati, Assam. This significant event will see over ₹18,640 crore transferred directly into the bank accounts of more than 9.32 crore farmer families across India.
The PM-KISAN scheme, initiated in February 2019, aims to provide financial assistance to eligible farmer families, ensuring they receive ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments. With this upcoming installment, the total amount transferred under the scheme will exceed ₹4.27 lakh crore, marking a substantial investment in the agricultural sector.
In this installment, over 2.15 crore women farmers will receive financial assistance, highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a prominent figure in the government, stated, “This timely assistance helps farmers purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.” He further emphasized that the PM-KISAN scheme has significantly boosted demand in the rural economy and reduced farmers’ dependence on debt.
The PM-KISAN scheme operates through India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the distribution of funds. Farmers can complete their e-KYC from home using a face-authentication-based mobile app, making the process more accessible. Additionally, the ‘Know Your Status (KYS)’ module allows beneficiaries to check their payment status and eligibility easily.
To ensure that the benefits reach genuine farmers, the government has introduced a ‘Voluntary Surrender’ facility for affluent farmers. A robust verification system is also in place to remove ineligible or deceased beneficiaries from the list, further enhancing the integrity of the program. Chouhan noted, “Prime Minister Shri Modi has placed special emphasis on ensuring that PM-KISAN benefits reach only genuine and eligible farmers.””>
Since its inception, the PM-KISAN scheme has played a crucial role in supporting farmers. The food grain production in India has seen a remarkable increase, rising from 252 million tonnes in 2014 to 357 million tonnes in 2025. This growth can be attributed to various factors, including the financial support provided by the PM-KISAN scheme, which encourages agricultural investment.
As the release date approaches, observers are keenly watching how this installment will impact the agricultural landscape in India. The government continues to focus on the welfare of farmers, placing their needs at the heart of policy-making. With the ongoing support from the PM-KISAN scheme, the future of Indian agriculture looks promising, although details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional measures that may be introduced alongside this installment.
