Bomb Threat at Parul University Prompts Evacuation
“So far, nothing suspicious has been found on the campus, but sanitising the entire campus will take a couple of hours,” stated a police officer responding to a bomb threat that disrupted Parul University on March 10, 2026.
The threat originated from an email sent to the university, leading to an immediate evacuation of the campus and the cancellation of internal examinations scheduled for that day. Parul University, which has more than 65,000 students enrolled across various courses and departments, faced significant disruption as police teams from the Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group, and Waghodia Police Station were deployed to address the situation.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad conducted a thorough search of the campus, ensuring the safety of students and staff. Fortunately, no explosives were found during the operation, alleviating immediate concerns.
Authorities revealed that the bomb threat email was traced back to hacked Outlook and Hotmail accounts, indicating a broader issue of email security. This incident was part of a series of similar threats sent to various government departments across the state.
Ahmedabad cybercrime teams are currently investigating the email trail to identify those responsible for the threats. The incident has raised awareness about the vulnerabilities in email security and the need for improved identity verification processes.
The evacuation caused heavy traffic congestion in the Waghodia area, as students and staff were directed to leave the premises quickly. The university has announced that postponed examinations will be rescheduled for the day following the conclusion of the current exam schedule.
