Naan Mudhalvan: Tamil Nadu’s Civil Services Success

Naan Mudhalvan: A Pathway to Success

“As an IAS officer, I want to improve the service delivery systems so govt programmes reach people more effectively,” stated Rajeshwari Suve, who secured All-India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. Her achievement highlights the impact of the Naan Mudhalvan scheme in Tamil Nadu.

This year, Tamil Nadu recorded an impressive performance in the Civil Services Examination, with 56 candidates clearing the exam, a significant increase from 57 candidates last year. Among those, 39 candidates underwent residential coaching under the Naan Mudhalvan initiative, which aims to enhance the preparation of aspiring civil servants.

Rajeshwari Suve, currently a deputy collector in Dindigul district, holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Anna University, Chennai. She previously attempted the UPSC exam three times before shifting her focus to the TNPSC exams, ultimately achieving her goal this year.

A R Rajah Mohaideen, who secured All-India Rank 7, shared, “The Covid pandemic made me think of becoming a civil servant.” His journey reflects a growing trend among youth in Tamil Nadu to pursue public service careers, inspired by the challenges faced during the pandemic.

In addition to Suve and Mohaideen, Sruthi R also made headlines with an All-India Rank of 18. The success of these candidates is a testament to the rigorous preparation facilitated by the Naan Mudhalvan scheme.

S Boominathan, a local education advocate, noted, “More than 150 candidates from TN appeared for the interview,” indicating a robust interest in civil service positions among Tamil Nadu’s youth.

T Sankara Saravanan, a mentor for many aspirants, remarked, “While 39 candidates, including Rajeshwari Suve, were residential aspirants, 17, including Rajah Mohaideen, received fellowship.” This highlights the diverse support systems available for candidates preparing for the Civil Services Examination.

The Tamil Nadu Government’s commitment to education and public service is evident in the increasing number of successful candidates. With a total of 958 candidates recommended for appointment this year, the state’s efforts are yielding positive results.

As Tamil Nadu continues to excel in civil services, the Naan Mudhalvan scheme remains a pivotal factor in shaping the future of aspiring civil servants in the region.
