LPG Gas Cylinder Booking Rules: Key Updates and Clarifications

The wider picture

Concerns about LPG supply arose amid geopolitical tensions affecting global energy supply chains. As nations grapple with fluctuating energy prices and supply disruptions, consumers have been anxious about the availability and booking rules for LPG gas cylinders.

In a recent development, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that there have been no changes to the LPG gas cylinder booking rules. This announcement comes in response to widespread reports claiming revised timelines for booking cylinders, which have been deemed incorrect by officials.

According to the Ministry, consumers with two LPG cylinders can continue to book a gas cylinder after 35 days. For those enrolled in the Ujjwala Yojana, the waiting period remains at 45 days. Additionally, bookings for the 10 kg composite domestic cylinder will be accepted after 18 days.

For single-cylinder households, the booking timelines are differentiated based on urban and rural settings. Urban households can book after 25 days, while rural households have a longer wait of 45 days. These timelines have remained unchanged, ensuring that consumers can plan their usage accordingly.

Commercial cylinders, however, are supplied only for emergency services and educational institutions, reflecting a focused approach to managing limited resources amid ongoing supply challenges.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reiterated, “The existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged and continue to function under the current time limit.” This statement aims to reassure consumers about the stability of the LPG supply chain.

Furthermore, the Indian Oil Corporation has also weighed in, stating, “Reports claiming changes in LPG refill booking timelines are incorrect.” This reinforces the Ministry’s position and aims to quell any confusion among consumers regarding the booking process.

Consumers can book LPG cylinders conveniently via phone, SMS, or WhatsApp, ensuring accessibility despite the ongoing concerns surrounding energy supplies. As the situation evolves, officials emphasize the importance of adhering to the established booking timelines to avoid unnecessary disruptions in service.
