Indian Railways has made a significant leap in enhancing national connectivity, with reports indicating that nearly 25,000 trains are now operating daily. This development marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of railway services in India, aimed at catering to the increasing demand for efficient transportation across the country.
In the fiscal year 2025-26, Indian Railways achieved remarkable milestones in freight transportation, loading a staggering 1,670 million tonnes. This accomplishment underscores the railway’s crucial role in supporting the nation’s logistics and supply chain, reflecting a robust infrastructure that is continuously evolving to meet the needs of a growing economy.
Further emphasizing its commitment to modernization, Indian Railways produced over 1,500 locomotives and more than 6,600 LHB coaches in recent years. These figures not only highlight the scale of production but also the focus on enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
In a bid to enhance safety and operational reliability, Indian Railways has commissioned the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System across 3,000 route kilometres. This system is designed to prevent accidents and ensure the safe movement of trains, showcasing the railway’s dedication to adopting advanced technologies.
Moreover, a significant ₹398.36 crore optical fibre project has been approved for the Ahmedabad and Ratlam divisions, covering 1,929 route kilometres. This initiative is part of a larger national plan, valued at ₹27,693 crore, aimed at establishing a robust communication backbone for Indian Railways.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, “Indian Railways is transforming connectivity across the nation with nearly 25,000 trains running every day throughout the year.” This statement reflects the government’s commitment to improving railway services and infrastructure to better serve the public.
The optical fibre project will lay high-capacity fibre optic cables along 1,929 route kilometres across Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, further enhancing communication capabilities within the railway network. This development is expected to support various operational needs and improve overall efficiency.
