Hazlewood: Josh Returns to RCB for IPL 2026

“Hazlewood arrived yesterday. He is looking fit,” said Andy Flower, the coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), as the team gears up for the IPL 2026 season. Josh Hazlewood’s return is a significant boost for RCB, who retained him despite his recent injury struggles.

Hazlewood is currently undergoing rehabilitation for hamstring and Achilles injuries, having last played international cricket in October 2025. His absence was felt as he missed both The Ashes 2025-26 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

In IPL 2025, Hazlewood showcased his skills by taking 22 wickets in 12 matches, with an impressive average of 17.55 and an economy rate of 8.77. His performance was crucial in RCB’s maiden title win last season.

RCB’s captain for IPL 2026, Rajat Patidar, expressed confidence in the team’s capabilities, stating, “We are not defending anything, we will win in IPL 2026 as well.” This sentiment reflects the team’s determination to build on their previous success.

In the opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. Jacob Duffy made an immediate impact, taking three wickets in his first three overs, showcasing the depth in RCB’s bowling lineup.

“It is great to have him here in our dressing room and in the meetings,” Flower added, highlighting the positive atmosphere surrounding Hazlewood’s return.

With Hazlewood’s experience and skill, RCB aims to leverage his presence to secure victories in the upcoming matches. Ishan Kishan, another key player, remarked, “We want to back our instincts,” indicating the team’s strategy moving forward.

As the IPL 2026 season unfolds, RCB fans are hopeful that Hazlewood’s return will enhance the team’s performance and lead them to further success.
