The Technology Development Board (TDB) has signed an agreement with InfinityX Innovations Private Limited to develop automated battery swapping infrastructure, a move expected to significantly enhance electric mobility operations in Telangana, India. This project aims to create IoT-enabled battery swapping stations that can complete a battery swap in under 40 seconds.
Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Accelerating the deployment of efficient and scalable charging alternatives is critical for the growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem.” The initiative is also expected to contribute to the establishment of a standardized and interoperable battery swapping network across the country.
In a related effort to promote electric vehicles (EVs), the Telangana government is offering discounts of up to 20% on electric two- and four-wheelers for state government employees. This first-of-its-kind initiative in Telangana could lead to savings of up to Rs 4 lakh per employee for approximately 5 lakh government employees eligible for these discounts.
The push for electric vehicles in India comes amid a growing global trend. For instance, Germany and France reported battery electric vehicle (BEV) market shares of 22% and 27%, respectively, in early 2026. Meanwhile, Denmark experienced the greatest increase in BEV market share, rising by 17 percentage points compared to the previous year.
InfinityX Innovations’ CEO and Founder noted, “Reducing battery transition time to under 40 seconds makes EV energy replenishment comparable to conventional refuelling.” This advancement could play a crucial role in making electric vehicles more appealing to consumers.
As the initiative unfolds, observers are keen to see how it influences the adoption of electric vehicles in Telangana and whether similar programs will emerge in other states. The developments in battery swapping technology and government incentives could reshape the landscape of electric mobility in India.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the timeline for the rollout of the battery swapping stations and the full impact of the discounts on EV sales in the state. However, the current momentum suggests a significant shift towards sustainable transportation solutions in Telangana.
