Betting apps: Hyderabad Police Issues Warning Against Amid IPL Season

“Do not ruin your life by falling into the trap of betting,” cautioned the Hyderabad Police as they issued a stark warning against betting syndicates during the ongoing IPL season.

The police have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against individuals involved in both online and offline gambling activities. Despite previous bans on betting apps, illegal betting has resurfaced in new forms, prompting the authorities to act decisively.

Fraudsters are increasingly using social media platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, and Instagram to lure unsuspecting users into betting scams. Local bookies are particularly targeting youth, pushing them into significant debt and jeopardizing their futures.

V.C. Sajjanar, the police commissioner, emphasized the importance of community vigilance, stating, “We will take strict action against social media influencers who promote these dangerous apps just for money.” He also urged citizens to report any suspicious betting activity immediately.

In a broader context, the government has previously banned hundreds of betting apps, yet the allure of gambling continues to pose a threat to families. Sajjanar warned, “Do not put your family’s future at risk.”

The police are actively monitoring both online operations and offline betting networks, making it clear that they will not tolerate illegal gambling in any form.

Citizens are encouraged to report any involvement in betting by calling Dial 100 or using the police WhatsApp number at 94906 16555. “If you know anyone involved in betting, please report it immediately,” Sajjanar urged.

As the IPL season progresses, betting apps are aggressively marketing their services, with offers such as Parimatch’s 1000% welcome bonus up to ₹70,000. Other platforms like Stake and Betvibe are also promoting enticing bonuses, which could further entice vulnerable individuals.

The Hyderabad Police’s warning serves as a crucial reminder of the risks associated with betting apps, particularly during high-stakes events like the IPL. Authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to combat this growing issue.
