Baramulla Police recovered approximately 1.7 kilograms of charas during a routine patrol in the Chichilora area of Kunzer on March 24, 2026. The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, while another managed to escape.
The police intercepted a suspicious vehicle with the registration number HR55AD2930, from which 27 grams of charas were recovered from the driver, identified as Waheed Sultan. Following this, approximately 1.690 kilograms of charas powder was found at the residence of the absconding suspect.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 35/2026 at the Police Station Kunzer, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in the region. Baramulla Police have reiterated their commitment to curb the drug menace that has been a persistent challenge in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a separate incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police disposed of a live artillery shell found in the Kalgai forest area of Uri, near the Line of Control. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team was deployed to neutralize and safely dispose of the shell, ensuring the area was secured and precautionary measures were taken.
The discovery of the live shell underscores the ongoing security challenges faced in the region, particularly in areas adjacent to the Line of Control.
