Petrol News: Gujarat Government Assures Fuel Availability Amid Panic Buying

Recent operational changes in fuel distribution have caused disruptions in Gujarat, leading to rumors of a fuel shortage. This situation triggered panic buying at petrol pumps across the state, with families rushing to refill their tanks.

In response to the growing concerns, the Gujarat government has assured citizens that there is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel available. Mona Khandhar, a government spokesperson, stated, “Sufficient quantities of petrol and diesel are available at all petrol pumps in the state as per requirement.” This reassurance comes as dealers reported increased demand and operational challenges.

The Indian Oil Corporation confirmed that supplies to retail outlets are continuing smoothly, despite the disruptions. However, some petrol pumps have imposed temporary rationing, limiting two-wheelers to a cap of 200 rupees per fill-up due to the surge in demand.

Dealers have indicated that recent changes in payment processes have contributed to the distribution issues. Mehul Patel, a local dealer, explained, “Earlier, dealers would pay after receiving fuel deliveries. Now, payments have to be made in advance as companies require liquidity.” This shift has complicated the replenishment cycles at some petrol stations.

In light of the situation, the Gujarat government has warned that legal action will be taken against dealers who keep their pumps closed despite having stock available. Citizens have been urged not to panic or queue at petrol pumps, as adequate fuel is confirmed to be present.

Despite the government’s assurances, the initial panic led to families calling relatives to rush to petrol stations, as noted by one dealer: “At one point, families were calling relatives, asking them to rush and refill tanks.” This reaction highlights the anxiety surrounding fuel availability, even as officials maintain that there is no shortage expected in the future.

The President of the Petroleum Dealers Association of India echoed these sentiments, stating, “There is no fuel shortage in Gujarat and none is expected in the future.” This statement aims to calm fears and restore normalcy at petrol stations.

As the situation develops, observers are closely monitoring the fuel distribution landscape in Gujarat, with hopes that the government’s interventions will stabilize the market and alleviate public concerns.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the long-term impacts of these operational changes, but officials remain optimistic about the continuity of fuel supplies in the state.
