India Post GDS 2026: Recruitment Updates and Commemorative Events

Recruitment Updates from India Post

India Post has announced significant developments in its Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment for 2026. The merit list for candidates in Uttar Pradesh was released on March 6, 2026, marking a crucial step in the selection process.

Document verification for the selected candidates is scheduled to close on March 23, 2026. Candidates must present original documents for verification to confirm their appointment, as missing documents could delay or void their selection.

The recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 28,636 posts across several postal circles in India. The merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Class 10 board examination, ensuring a fair selection process.

Compensation and Engagement Letters

Engagement letters for the selected candidates are expected to be issued in phases following the completion of the document verification process. The pay band for engaged candidates ranges from Rs 10,000 to Rs 29,380, providing a competitive salary for those entering the postal service.

Commemorative Events for Annapurna Devi

In addition to recruitment updates, India Post has also commemorated the birth centenary of notable Surbahar artist Annapurna Devi. A special cover was released on March 9, 2026, at the Kolkata General Post Office, highlighting her contributions to Indian classical music.

The music festival celebrating Annapurna Devi’s centenary took place from March 6 to 8, 2026. Nityanand Haldipur remarked, “This honor by the India Post has added a new dimension to this initiative,” reflecting the significance of the event.

Annapurna Devi, a prominent figure in the Maihar Gharana, was known for her exceptional talent and influence in the realm of Indian classical music. Her legacy continues to inspire many artists today.

As these events unfold, the recruitment process and the celebration of cultural heritage highlight the ongoing efforts of India Post to engage with the community and honor its rich history.
