Thakkali Srinivasan Passes Away at 72

“Deeply regret to inform that Producer/Director/Composer Thakkali Srinivasan passed away due to health complications in Bengaluru,” stated Nikil Murukan, confirming the news of Srinivasan’s death on March 10, 2026.

At the age of 72, Srinivasan’s passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Tamil cinema. He began his career as a producer with the film Ivargal Varungala Thoongal in 1987, and quickly became known for his contributions to the industry.

Over the years, he produced several landmark films, including Manasukul Mathappu in 1988, Nalaya Manithan in 1989, and Witness in 1995. His work extended beyond production; he also directed and composed music for Jenma Natchathiram, a remake of the classic horror film The Omen.

Srinivasan was not only a successful filmmaker but also an actor, known for his role as the antagonist in the Kamal Hassan-starrer Soora Samharam.

In his later years, he shifted his focus towards philanthropy, running an ashram and living with his adopted children. “He was a philanthropist who ran an ashram in the later years of his life and was living with his adopted children,” a source close to him noted.

His final directorial project, Aduthathu, was inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None. This film was a testament to his enduring creativity and passion for storytelling.

Srinivasan’s contributions to Tamil cinema have left a lasting impact, and his legacy will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike. His last rites are scheduled to be performed on March 11, 2026, in Bengaluru.

As the film community mourns his loss, many are reflecting on his extensive body of work and the influence he had on the industry.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any upcoming tributes or memorials planned in his honor.
