Background of the PM-Kisan Scheme

The PM-Kisan scheme provides financial assistance to farmers, which is crucial for agricultural inputs. This initiative aims to support eligible farmers by delivering direct cash transfers to help them meet their agricultural needs.

Recent Developments

On March 13, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme from Guwahati, Assam. Beneficiaries of the scheme will receive Rs 6,000 directly into their bank accounts, a move expected to significantly aid their agricultural activities.

The release will involve approximately Rs 19,000 crore allocated to around 9.32 crore farmers across the country. This financial infusion is intended to assist farmers in purchasing essential agricultural inputs, thereby bolstering their productivity.

Upcoming Engagements

Following the PM-Kisan release, Modi is scheduled to travel to Silchar in the Barak Valley on March 14. During this visit, he will lay the foundation stone for the Rs 22,000-crore Guwahati–Silchar high-speed expressway, which aims to enhance connectivity in the region.

Additionally, he will also lay the foundation stone for a new flyover in Silchar, further contributing to the infrastructure development in Assam.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Guwahati on March 15, indicating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s continued focus on agricultural and infrastructural development in the region.

Observers note that the release of funds under the PM-Kisan scheme is a critical component of the government’s strategy to support farmers and stimulate the agricultural sector.

As the situation unfolds, officials and analysts will be closely monitoring the impact of these financial measures on the farming community and the broader economy.
