SBI Share Price Decline: What You Need to Know

SBI shares fell 5.60% to Rs 1,079.40 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), raising concerns among investors. This decline wiped out nearly Rs 62,352 crore in market capitalisation, bringing SBI’s valuation below Rs 10 lakh crore to approximately Rs 9.93 lakh crore.

The stock opened at Rs 1,111.10, compared to its previous close of Rs 1,143.55. During the trading session, SBI shares reached an intraday high of Rs 1,113.60 and a low of Rs 1,064.25. The 52-week high for SBI shares stands at Rs 1,234.80, while the 52-week low is Rs 719.20.

Despite the recent downturn, SBI reported a net profit of Rs 21,028 crore in the December 2025 quarter, marking a 24.5% year-on-year growth. Analysts continue to view SBI positively, with a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12.97 and a price-to-book (P/B) ratio of 2.14.

The decline in SBI shares coincided with a broader sell-off in Indian equities, driven by geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which have pushed crude oil prices higher. This market weakness is seen as a contributing factor to the fall in SBI’s share price.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has maintained a Buy rating on SBI, indicating confidence in the bank’s long-term prospects. Analysts suggest that the recent fall in share price is largely linked to overall market weakness rather than any significant change in the bank’s fundamentals.

SBI continues to stand out among public sector banks due to its strong profit growth and improving asset quality. The steady profit growth and enhancing asset quality are key reasons why analysts consider SBI a stable long-term investment in the PSU banking sector.

As the market reacts to ongoing geopolitical developments, investors are closely monitoring SBI’s performance. While the current decline raises questions, the bank’s solid fundamentals may provide reassurance for long-term investors.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the potential impact of external factors on SBI’s future performance. Investors will be looking for further updates as the situation evolves.
