Maharashtra police respond to oleum gas leak in Palghar
On March 2, 2026, Maharashtra police registered an FIR regarding an oleum gas leak in Palghar, leading to the evacuation of approximately 200 people from the factory compound.
The gas leak was reported around 2 PM, prompting immediate action from local authorities. Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh confirmed that there was no life-threatening situation at the leakage spot, stating, “There is nothing like a life-threatening (situation) at the leakage spot right now.”
The incident occurred in the Tarapur Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area, a hub for various industrial activities. The police filed the FIR under Sections 280, 125, 286, and 289 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to public safety and hazardous substances.
In a separate incident, a Gujarat resident was arrested for allegedly allowing fraudsters to use his bank account in a scam that cheated a 77-year-old man out of ₹2.25 crore. The victim was misled into believing his name was involved in a terrorism investigation and was instructed to pay money to clear his name.
A police officer involved in the case stated, “We have taken custody of the account holder and are trying to find out more about the fraudsters.” The victim was reportedly told to pay ₹2.5 crore to resolve the fabricated charges against him.
As the festival of Holi approached, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde urged citizens to celebrate in an eco-friendly manner, emphasizing the importance of safety during the festivities. She made this appeal during a program organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation called ‘Flowers Holi’.
The police presence was increased during the Holi celebrations to combat illegal activities, ensuring public safety during the festive period.
