Airlines Face Disruptions Amid Regional Conflicts
“We are working around the clock to organise additional relief flights where operationally possible and will share further updates as soon as they are confirmed,” a representative from Qatar Airways stated, highlighting the airline’s efforts to navigate the ongoing challenges in the region.
The airline has suspended scheduled flights due to the closure of Qatari airspace, a decision that remains in effect until the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirms the airspace is safe to reopen. This suspension has significant implications for travelers, particularly as an operational update from Qatar Airways is expected on March 7 at 09:00 Doha time.
In Israel, airlines are adapting to the situation with outbound flights limited to a maximum of 70 passengers per plane. Ben Gurion Airport has partially reopened for inbound flights, primarily to repatriate the approximately 120,000 Israelis stranded abroad. Passengers on Israeli airlines must adhere to an early check-in program and arrive at the airport 1.5 hours before departure to facilitate these operations.
Additionally, 15 percent of all outbound seats from Israel are reserved for humanitarian, security, diplomatic, or tourist cases, reflecting the urgent need to manage the flow of individuals amid the ongoing crisis. Flydubai has also announced its intention to resume flight operations to Ben Gurion Airport to assist in bringing back stranded Israelis.
Qatar Airways is actively working to organize additional relief flights despite the airspace closure, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to supporting travelers during this tumultuous time. However, passengers are advised not to proceed to the airport unless they have received an official notification from Qatar Airways confirming their flight.
As the situation evolves, the Transportation Ministry has indicated that operations will be conducted in accordance with the recommendations of defense officials and in line with security developments. “We sincerely apologise for the disruption caused and thank passengers for their patience and understanding,” Qatar Airways added, acknowledging the challenges faced by travelers.
Air traffic across the Middle East is currently experiencing widespread disruption due to the ongoing US-Israel–Iran conflict, further complicating the landscape for airlines and travelers alike. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact date when Qatari airspace will reopen, and the impact of ongoing conflicts on air travel in the region remains unclear.
