A vital 42 runs off 18 balls from Dewald Brevis at the number four position was key as wickets fell during South Africa’s pursuit of 154. George Linde (30 runs from 21 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (21 runs from 24 balls) ultimately guided the team to victory with 13 balls remaining.
South Africa, having triumphed in all seven of their games in this tournament, is on the hunt for their first T20 World Cup championship after previously making it to the final in 2024.
The outcome also verifies that England, who topped Group 2 in the Super 8s, will compete against either India or West Indies in the semifinals, as neither team can equal South Africa’s total of six points.
They clash in the ultimate Super 8 match at 13:30 GMT, where the victor will advance to the semi-finals.
"South Africa will be difficult to overcome. They have fulfilled all the requirements in this competition," remarked former Australia wicketkeeper Ryan Campbell on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.
